Meet Dr. Gupta
Welcome to my practice! I go by Doctor Gupta, Doctor G, or Kelly—whichever works for you.
Since completing my training in 2005, I’ve practiced psychiatry across diverse clinical and geographical settings, treating patients with a wide range of diagnoses, illness severities, and cultural backgrounds. Through my variegated experience, I’ve learned to identify winning models of care and incorporated key components of them into my practice.
After searching many years for a healing paradigm to both complement and augment my psychiatry practice, I discovered life coaching in 2013. The coaching mindset relies on the coach’s intuition and the client’s inner wisdom rather than diagnostic and treatment expertise.
S. Kelly Gupta, MD
Determined to exploit the clear synergy between the two paradigms, I trained extensively to start a professional coaching practice in 2015. As a coach, I’ve guided my clients through transformative work, borrowing many insights from psychiatry. Reciprocally, I have utilized techniques from coaching to enrich my role as psychiatrist. This melding of scientific rigor with playful creativity better serves my patients in making therapeutic behavioral changes, engaging in creative problem solving, and recognizing their inner health.
Professional development
Within the field of psychiatry, I have an insatiable love of learning, which keeps me current and diversified in my knowledge base. I devote considerable study to both mainstream and alternative approaches. That said, information can only carry one so far. I recognize the importance of seeing each patient with fresh eyes and honoring the mystery intrinsic to psychiatric medicine.
Personal evolution
Seeking my own wisdom and inner peace, I’ve engaged in many forms of healing, including my own personal psychotherapy and coaching. The compassion and wisdom gained from this journey, and in particular the experience of being a patient, vitally contribute to my effectiveness as a psychiatrist.
I live in Tucson, Arizona at the base of the Catalina Mountains, and enjoy frolicking in the sun amongst the Saguaro cacti.
